Wills
Your will is one of the key documents that forms the basis of your financial planning. It is important that you have a will that is current and reflects your wishes.
If you die without a valid will then your assets may not be distributed according to your wishes; possibly leaving family members with less than you intended if there are no clear instructions on your estate.
We advise all clients to consider making a will and/or ensuring that existing wills are still appropriate.
Financially it makes sense and here are just a few reasons why:
- if you don’t make a will then the law will determine who gets what from your estate – by having a will you can decide how your assets are shared out
- if you are not married or in a civil partnership then your partner will not inherit automatically - you can make sure your partner is provided for
- if you are divorced or if your civil partnership has been dissolved you can decide whether to leave anything to an ex-partner who is now living with someone else
- you can make sure your beneficiaries do not pay more Inheritance Tax than necessary
Although we do not provide a will writing service internally, we do work with a number of specialists who can help you.*
*Will writing is a separate and distinct service from those offered as a representative of St. James's Place. Will writing is not regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
